Linville Caverns

Experience the wonders that nature created on the “inside of a mountain”. Linville Caverns provides guided tours into Humpback Mountain, taking visitors along a smooth walkway beside an underground stream. Stalactites, stalagmites, a vast array of mineral colors, the “Bottomless Pool,” and a glimpse of total darkness are all part of this underground trip.

Elk Mountain Riding Company

Linville Falls

Less than 20 minutes north of SSBD, (mile marker 316) Linville Falls is the most photographed waterfall in North Carolina. Crabtree Falls

Less than 20 minutes south (mile post 339) lies another natural beauty.  Crabtree Falls, a 70 ft waterfall, can be reached via an easier 3-mile hike or a more challenging 3.5-mile loop trail that takes you along a ridge above the falls. Either path winds you through beautiful woods, with plenty of wildflowers dotting your way during the summer.
