Fall glamping just went retro at Spacious Skies Campgrounds on the East Coast.

There’s nothing like a night under the stars to bring back childhood nostalgia, like the smell of an open fire, the art of perfectly toasting a marshmallow, and a camping trailer in the background, waiting to welcome you into its cozy interior.

Thanks to a fleet of new retro trailers available to rent at campgrounds around the East Coast, the nostalgia just got a lot easier to recreate. Spacious Skies Campgrounds, which operates 12 campgrounds between Maine and North Carolina, recently announced that they’ve added a fleet of 1950s-style camping trailers to their offerings.

The teardrop-shaped trailers, which range from 13 to 28 feet in length, have a distinct 1950s vibe. The white exteriors are accented with colors from your grandma’s era — baby blue, bright red, and teal — and inside, there are black-and-white checkerboard floors, birch cabinetry, and colorful cushions.

Although the look and feel is retro, you won’t have to deal with an ancient stovetop or a barely operational shower. Everything is brand new, and built by the team at Riverside RV. The modern kitchens are outfitted with new ovens, stovetops, and microwaves, and come stocked with everything from dishes and pans to a coffee maker. Plus, you’ll have your own toilet and shower.

“The exteriors of the retro trailers look like they were charmingly preserved in the 1950s and are just now seeing the light of day, but they are decidedly modern on the inside,” said Ali Rasmussen, CEO and creative director for Spacious Skies, in a press release sent to Travel + Leisure. “Whether it is one person reminiscing about childhood or a young couple looking for a unique experience, we think these units will be immensely popular as we add them to the collection of Spacious Skies campgrounds.”

All the Spacious Skies campgrounds have full hook-up sites (water, electric, and sewer), and many have cable and Wi-Fi. And while Spacious Skies makes a point to make camping welcoming and accessible (even for non-campers), their campgrounds still provide a true dose of nature. You’ll find their campgrounds in some of the Eastern United States’ most beautiful locales — from New Hampshire lakefronts to the Adirondack Mountains.

The new retro trailers are currently available to rent at four of the company’s 12 campgrounds. You’ll find them at Spacious Skies Walnut Grove in Alfred, Maine; Spacious Skies French Pond in Henniker, New Hampshire; Spacious Skies Woodland Hills in Austerlitz, New York; and Spacious Skies Country Oaks in Dorothy, New Jersey. Eventually, the company plans to have the trailers available to rent at all 12 of their locations.

You can reserve a retro trailer, a campsite, or one of Spacious Skies’ many forms of camping accommodations — including cabins and yurts — here.
