First off, I was really tempted to rate this place a 4 because we reserved a 6 person cabin that was really only a 4 person cabin. The front office quickly fixed it but the fix was to bring 2 roll away beds. One of my kids ended up sleeping in the bathroom on the rollaway. It was fine but had I known, I would have reserved the bigger cabin which was actually a 6 person. Despite that mix up, we had a great time. The bathrooms were spotless. The staff was really nice but not uppity. My kids loved the giant inflatable pillow. It was a little further from the national park than I would have liked (40 minutes). The site itself was beautiful. If we come back to the area, this will be a high contender for a repeat visit, unless we can find something a bit closer to the park. All in all we had a great time. And I'd recommend to friends.
This was one of the nicest campgrounds I've ever stayed at. It was very clean, especially the bathroom (which was heated). There is an outdoor cleanup area with sinks and a microwave. The deluxe tent site was well maintained and easy to access. It's also dog friendly. Would stay at the other locations for sure.
Great place!
Long story short booked a spot, day of our trip RV slide was stuck (motor broke). The staff accommodated us by switching from a RV spot to a yurt so we still could come to the area and have our vacation. Awesome staff, very nice place.
Our kids are grown so all the kid stuff, gem mining, arcade things didn't matter. We did use the pool a lot. Bath houses were clean even though we didn't use them.. I had to look. The farm animals right by the yurts was great. My wife loved that. It was very quiet and no issues the whole week we were there. People were friendly.
We were there in August of 23 and I'm planning to book a site this year to continue to explore the area more. 10/10 I will stay here again. We walked the loop and the RV sites look nice, a little close but not bad. Full hook ups with a patio, chairs and a fire pit. That's all you need. Wifi was a little funky to connect to but once you did it worked fine. Only bad thing I could say is we only had a week to try to do everything there is to do in that area.
This was our second time going out although we had been to SSSV once before last year in a rented Class C from Outdoorsy (we hadn't had our Campendium account yet). We enjoyed it so much we knew we wanted to come back and possibly so at least one a year. A former KOA, it's obvious the new owners are putting in time, money and love fixing the campground and sites up and slowly bringing it up to more modern specs. Many of the sites use aging garden bed timbers which are slowly being replaced by new ones as well as regraveling as needed.
The huge dog park was very nice and clean with decently stocked dog bag stands scattered throughout the campground. Our two pups made a lot of friends here, with a gathering of dog lovers and their furry friends down at the park one evening. It was a great way of getting to know more about our fellow nearby campers!
The management and employees were very friendly and accommodating. We even had a couple of Walmart deliveries (out of necessity due to an issue we encountered not related at all to the campground) sent over to the office which they gladly informed us about.
We noticed a brand new WiFi network throughout the park which was excellent (we used our T-Mobile and Verizon hotspots on our phones as backups; excellent signal for both there).
I (Kory) visited nearby Luray Caverns which was extremely cool, albeit a bit pricey. Definitely one of those "once in a lifetime" experiences I'd encourage anyone to check out. The town of Luray itself is very cool, with an active and vibrant downtown consisting of various shops, eateries, coffee shops, a cool used book store we visited and more. There's a paved walking path running alongside the creek downtown where I observed a children's trout fishing tournament the Saturday morning we were there. It's apparent this is very tight knit yet welcoming and friendly community who takes pride in sharing their town with visitors.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at SSSV very much and will certainly be back, perhaps, at least yearly (if their seasonal sites weren't so expensive, we'd probably consider one but will certainly make do with their nightly sites, enough that we even joined their Cosmic Camper loyalty program which paid for itself the annual fee with this trip). We also made great new friends, some of them who live nearby us back home. Being very new to the camping community, we're super thankful and appreciative of our newfound friends!
Overnight stay here while exploring the Shenandoah Valley. Iconic setting, dark skies, bath houses were clean and modern. GREATLY appreciate the outdoor kitchen sinks for cleanup. We hope to return soon! Add an air compressor and you'll have it all!
