Black Folks Camp Too (BFCT) named Spacious Skies Campgrounds the “Campground Company of the Year.”

The award was presented at a special BFCT event at Spacious Skies Hidden Creek in Marion, N.C. The award acknowledged the company’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion at all 15 of its campgrounds.

Ali Rasmussen, co-founder of Spacious Skies Campgrounds said, “It has been a privilege to work with Black Folks Camp Too since our partnership began earlier this year, and we are honored to be acknowledged for our sincere work to promote diversity across the collection. Our mission is to make all of our guests feel comfortable and welcomed as they experience our campgrounds and the abundance of outdoor recreational adventures that are available in each location.”

Spacious Skies Campgrounds was the first private campground company to partner with BFCT. Its campgrounds are “Unity Blaze Certified,” which acknowledges the campgrounds’ commitment to the Unity Blaze motto: “You are Invited and Welcomed.”

Additionally, all company management and headquarters employees completed the Unity Blaze training program, which provides insights about the reasons for the lack of diversity in outdoor recreation and ways certified BFCT partners can work to promote inclusion and diversity throughout their operations.

Spacious Skies Campgrounds operates campgrounds in Maine (two campgrounds), New York (two), New Hampshire (two), New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina (three), South Carolina and Georgia.
