5 Year-Round Campgrounds to Take Your Campervan

December 6, 2022 by Debra Pamplin

Enjoy the Best of Winter Camping at These Eastern Locations

When it comes to year-round campgrounds, Spacious Skies Campgrounds provide a variety of locations for RVers and van campers alike. Though the company owns 13 campgrounds located up and down a good portion of the eastern seaboard, they will only be keeping five open throughout winter.

While these parks will remain open and fully functioning, some outdoor activities and amenities like beaches and swimming pools will be limited. Spacious Skies Campers shared some insight as to what to expect during a stay at one of the five year-round campgrounds.

“With fewer people and activities but just as much natural beauty, winter camping can be an especially relaxing and memorable experience. Our winter-season guests who layer up and ‘camp on’ during the cooler months understand there’s something magical about sitting around a roaring campfire on a clear winter night.”

Ali Rasmussen, CEO and Creative Director of Spacious Skies Campgrounds

Here’s a look at the five year-round campgrounds.

Spacious Skies Campgrounds-Belle Ridge

In the heart of Tennessee, between the popular cities of Nashville and Knoxville, there is the Spacious Skies Campgrounds-Belle Ridge. Situated in the town of Monterey, it is housed on 500 acres of the largest pieces of forests east of the Mississippi River. There are 50 sites within this campground, some are pull-thru sites, and all feature full hookups. Free WIFI and big rigs are welcome.

Near I-40, guests staying here will also be in close proximity to other popular cities in neighboring states. A short trip south will lead to Atlanta, Georgia, while Charlotte, North Carolina, isn’t too far to the east. North bounders can experience Louisville, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Nearby attractions include the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, all-things Nashville, and the World’s Fair Park in Knoxville.

But guests shouldn’t be in such a hurry to travel on to other locations, as Belle Ridge provides plenty of things to see and do. Much like the other Spacious Skies year-round campgrounds, there are golf carts, fishing holes, gem mining, and a jumping pillow for the little ones. Here, there is also a gazebo, pavilion, and UTV trails that lead to fishing holes and waterfalls.

Another of the five year-round campgrounds is situated within the city of Gaffney, South Carolina. Picture a large pond with some ducks and benches spaced around the perimeter, a few under a large shade tree. This is the picture guests will see where the 127 campsites are located. Picture-perfect farmland and rolling hills that stay green most of the year.

Paved sites with stone fire rings, dining tables with chairs, and a grill are some of the amenities at Spacious Skies-Peach Haven. There are hiking trails on the property, mini golf, a ball pit, and a jumping pillow for the kids. Bring along Fido to this dog-friendly park and let him run in one of the two dog parks.

For some time outside of the campground, there are historical sites, nature attractions, and local art to view while in Gaffney. Spend a few hours at the Hollywild Animal Park or do some shopping at the Gaffney Outlet Marketplace.

Just off of I-95 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, this east coast campground provides guests with a sense of rustic charm. Nestled within the Carolina sandhills, this resort is surrounded by native longleaf pines. For those looking for quiet and a chance to gain some inner peace, a walk around the hiking trail is in order. This trail borders a catch-and-release fishing pond, which is also a good activity for those looking for some peaceful nature time.

Sandy Run provides 62 sites and offers a variety of year-round, winter-season amenities. In addition to the fishing pond and hiking trail, there is a camp store, gem mining opportunities, and a jumping pillow.

Nearby attractions include the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, Clark Park & Nature Center, the Zipquest Waterfall & Treetop Adventure Park, and the 82nd Airborne Division War Memorial Museum.

Spacious Skies-French Pond

For some winter northern exposure within the state of New Hampshire, make plans to stay at this Spacious Skies year-round campground. With 46 winterized RV sites, an arcade game room that features an air hockey table, and trails that are ATV friendly, this resort just might be a great choice to experience the beauty of winter.

Nearby attractions include the Pats Peak Ski Area (5 miles north), New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum.

Spacious Skies Year-Round Campgrounds-Hidden Creek

For those wanting to visit the Blue Ridge Mountains, this is the RV destination to choose. Located less than an hour outside of Asheville and two hours from Charlotte, this Marion, North Carolina, location is the gateway to the famous mountain range. It is close enough to big cities but small enough to let nature take center stage.

Providing plenty of unobscured views of the mountain ranges, as well as views into the valley, Spacious Skies-Hidden Creek offers the perfect blend of nature and relaxation.

Spend some time fishing in their stock pond or spend some time indoors while taking a break from the cold. Let the kids play at the arcade or try their hand at gem mining. Rent a golf cart during your stay and take advantage of the 24-hour laundry mat.

Choose from a creek or lakefront site upon making your reservation. For your convenience, this campground offers full hook-up sites, water, electric and sewer.
